Description Christoph Schäfer 2016-12-14 08:12:33 UTC
It would help to improve file import if LibreOffice could provide a font substitution mechanism that would ask for an appropriate replacement font.

The replacement table in Options - Fonts is not enough?

No, not at all. There are hundreds of thousands documents of all kind out there using thousands of fonts. You cannot know beforehand what font a specific document uses. This isn't necessarily a problem with Office documents, where one can use replacements with the same font metrics, e.g. Liberation Serif instead of Times New Roman, but a serious one with DTP and drawing files like PUB, PM65, or CDR. Thus, the replacement has to be conscious decision by the user upon import of a document.

There should be an option to make this replacement permanent, of course.

Ok, please describe, how this feature would work in practice and then we can throw it to the design dogs to chew on.

In addition to the font substitution dialog that appears when opening a document in scribus[1], the options dialog also has a dedicated section of the list of font substitutions[2].

Guess we can use this bug report as reference bug report to oversee the various aspects of the proposal.

Removing needsUX since input has been given. Would be a nice GSoC project, or rather some.

bug 96872 has a related issue.
