The option is available only for images but no idea what it is good for since neither raster nor vector graphics know the concept "shadow" and "border" or pick it up for the caption frame. Not to speak what the supposed workflow is. What is "apply border and shadow" _supposed_ to mean in the context of auto-caption? We discussed the topic in the design meeting. The participants decided to dig into the issue and find out what exactly the option is good for and how to use it before hiding it. Side note: There seem to be issues with autocaption, checking the option does not add the caption after inserting a chart via toolbar. Any results after more than one year? (In reply to Dieter from comment #4) > Any results after more than one year? Apparently no dev volunteer has taken the effort yet. (In reply to Heiko Tietze from comment #1) > The option is available only for images No, it's available for every type except frames and tables > but no idea what it is good for Help says: "Applies the border and shadow of the object to the caption frame." [1] Similar, if you add a caption manually: 1. Insert an image and add a border and a shadow to it 2. Context menu -> Insert caption -> Options 3. Enable "Use border and shadow of the selected object" That works as expected [1] file:///C:/Program%20Files/LibreOffice/help/en-GB/text/shared/optionen/01041100.html?System=WIN&DbPAR=WRITER&HID=modules/swriter/ui/optcaptionpage/OptCaptionPage#bm_id1826838 (In reply to Dieter from comment #6) > Similar, if you add a caption manually: You can add the shadow manually but the automatic option doesn't do the job. => bug Why do we need to _automatically caption an object_ and at the same time apply some random formatting. Why border and shadow but not padding, color highlight, columns etc. => just remove from the UI. Let's set NEW, at least. One question: Is it the expectd behaviour, that if you copy and paste an image, auto caption doesn't work? If you can only add auto caption if you choose Insert / Image the border and shadow dialog makes no sense, because ypou just have the image file. Or do I miss something? Seems to me if all these items are OLE objects. No auto caption when inserting a chart via toolbar button, none for copy/paste, etc. Hard to understand for users, and I see no good reason why some workflows should behave differently. I've just seen, that this is bug 154682 with relationship to bug 51850 |
